GLSEN - Metro St. Louis is dedicated to providing a safe place for GLBT and straight educators and their allies to discuss the issues surrounding safe schools, and to give and receive support.
We meet the third Tuesday of every month, September through May, at 7:00 PM, except in December, when we have our holiday party.
Have any ideas for meeting programs? We can use your input!
Our meetings are divided into three main sections.
We begin with a short "business" discussion. We discuss any issues about the organization, news of recent happenings, reports from the treasurer, speaker's bureau, and other committees. This usually lasts from 15-30 minutes.
Our program is then presented. We have a variety of programs: We have in the past included films; speakers from other organizations; teacher empowerment workshops; panel discussion; and so on. The program includes time for questions-and-answers and/or discussion.
The last part of our meeting is devoted to support time. We break into small groups and share thoughts and feelings from the meeting and/or what has been happening in our own lives. It is a time to discuss, in a safe environment, any issues that are concerning us and any wonderful things that have been happening.
We always end with refreshments and some socializing.
We hope everyone who has expressed an interest in GLSEN can try to attend a meeting this year. They are fun, friendly, informative, and helpful, and worth every minute!
